Name: Jonathan "JJ" Berke
Alias: Kyukei, Rozi
Occupation: Student at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland).
Computer Interests: I've been interested in computers ever since my family got an old 286. Back when I entered Junior High School, I endeavored to teach myself HTML, a process that is still going on to this day. Since then I've gone on to learn C++ (including intro and AP Computer Science AB), and some rudimentary BASIC. Beyond programming languages, I have for the past year been working on digital video editing and sound editing, mostly with music videos. And, in addition, I greatly enjoy gaming, and trying to keep my rickety old dial-up modem connection from completely dying on me.
Other Interests: I am throwing the shot put for the Johns Hopkins team. I also play football, although I don't know if I will try while in college. I am trying to teach myself the bass guitar, though the process has been long and difficult. I'm really interested in speech and debate and political rhetoric. And I like playing the card game bridge. Yes, bridge.
Favorite Java word: void - I like the keyword 'void', because I often return empty-handed from tasks, like void methods, but they still have purposes, so maybe I do too.

Name: Ryan Cornelius
Alias: Lathentar
Occupation: Student at University of Texas, Austin (Austin, Texas)
Computer Interests: I started programming my freshman year of high school with a terrible basic course. Then things picked up when I moved to Houston and from there took Computer Science. Took the AP CS A sophomore year and AB the next. I haven't done too much other than C++. I competed in the UIL (a high school programming competition) tournament and my team won State. That was a wonderful experience. I've dabbled in Visual Basic, JavaScript, and Java... I am current at UT as a Computer Science Major.
Other Interests: Gaming. I have always been a big fan of computer games, and it's one of the big reasons I got into computer science. I attempt to make games in C++, but seem to come up short because I'm either too lazy to make sprites or just lose interest. My girlfriend is another huge interest. She's been extremely special to me and has been wonderful the entire time we've been together and will be together.
Favorite Java word: void - important enough of a word for more than one JJ Dream Team member to pick it!

Name: Jonathan Dodge
Occupation: Student
Computer Interests: To tell the truth this is my first year actually programming (with C++). But I enjoyed the class and started doing much independent study work to prepare for the AB exam, since the class was only to prepare for A. My experience with computing started back in the days of windows 3.1 with a mighty 100 MHz CPU. Ironically that machine cost much more than the one that I am currently using as well as the newer one that is still sitting on my floor awaiting a motherboard. The one I am using currently was given to me at the end of my junior year and since then I have had the license to fool around with things, without affecting the rest of my family's files. I have become quite adept at customizing windows and fixing most windows layer problems.
Strangest bug I have ever experienced: One time my computer had been running for a few days straight, as it usually is, and I decided it needed a reboot. After I restarted, it told me that I had no windows registry.
Other Interests: I enjoy gaming much, cards, video games, chess, particularly games with some kind of strategy involved. I have played essentially every sport possible in my life, but enjoy hockey and volleyball most.
Favorite Java word: static - Everyone always complains at me for being lazy and not moving much, so I guess I am a static person.

Name: Dan Goldburt
Alias: Chepopdad
Occupation: Student at Cornell University (Ithaca, New York)
Computer Interests: I started programming by accident. In 7th grade my dad was switching occupations and there were over 20 new computer books in the house, from BASIC to Visual Basic. One day I was bored and started reading "Visual Basic for Dummies." Since then my computer skills have advanced past the Dummy designation. In high school I took virtually every computer class offered. Besides Java, I've had extensive experience with Pascal, C++, Visual Basic, and I've even toyed with Perl and MySQL. Now my goal is to become a Java expert. In the future I'd like to work automating banking or trading functions. I think that's an outgrowth of my second dream of being a stock broker. Other than programming, I don't spend much time with computers. I don't play many computer games, if anything just Snood. And my number one biggest computer fear is Network Administration. When the Internet stops working I throw my hands up in despair.
Other Interests: My third dream (it never hurts to have too many) is to be a professional hockey player. The closest I will ever come is playing scoro at a Devils game, but I still love playing with my friends.
Favorite Java word: extends - I always picture an octopus encircling another class with a tentacle.

Name: Greg Harm
Alias: Ebola, H2OPoloAndAll
Occupation: Student at Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island)
Computer Interests: I started formally programming in the 9th grade. I took some intro. programming courses in C++. Then I took AP CS A in 10th and AP CS AB in 11th. (I really donÕt like that my school offers both as full year courses.) This year I took a new class my school offered, Wed Design and Graphic Animation. It was a course to teach you HTML and JavaScript AND Macromedia Flash animation. I took time in that course to learn some PHP and mySQL instead of what my teacher had originally planned. My other computer work has been in C++ for programming and PHP for web scripting. I have dabbled in Perl but nothing much. Other stuff on the computer includes gaming, trying to run some servers off my cable modem, and playing with multimedia encoding (DVDs are a good source of input).
Other Interests: I love to be in the water! In high school I participated in all three water sports they offered: water polo, springboard diving, and swimming. This summer I've been diving and trying to keep in shape by lifting and swimming. Besides working on JJ, I also have a part-time job at Key Data Systems. When I have some free time I like to read, go rollerblading or just hang out with friends.
Favorite Java word: private - I'm very protected of my data.

Name: Chris Lin
Alias: Shmoo, xshmoox, MrShmoo, Trouble Ninja
Occupation: Student at The Columbus Academy (Columbus, Ohio)
Computer Interests: I've been addicted to computers since Middle School. After the "good ol' days" of AOL 3.0, I began to get into computer gaming, and online games in particular, so I decided to get a cable modem. I got into programming with the CSA AP in 10th grade and the CSAB AP in 11th and received 5's on both. Along with programming, I can spend hours on the computer just browsing, checking out music, or playing games.
Other Interests: I love to run, both for enjoyment and competition (cross-country and track). I like tons of music across different genres and enjoy seeing live shows. I enjoy electronic devices in general. I'm teaching myself acoustic guitar in my spare time. Besides Computer Science, I enjoy most math and science related subjects. Finally, I just enjoy being a kid...not having any worries and hanging out with my friends

Name: Jim Liu
Alias: AznSensazn17
Occupation: Student at Duke University (Durham, North Carolina)
Computer Interests: My first computer experience was with my old 386 running Windows 3.1 with 2 MB of RAM. Needless to say I've come a long way. I got started in formal programming in 11th grade with Computer Science A. I continued on with Computer Science AB as an independent study course (school didn't offer a formal class) in 12th grade. I hope to continue in the future. I also dabble a lot with web design and graphics. I'm just starting to learn Java. Otherwise, I play games occasionally but mostly use the computer for the Internet.
Other Interests: I can't stand to be innate for prolonged periods of time so I like to do a lot of activities, mainly basketball, working out, swimming, and tennis. I go out with friends, sleep, watch TV, read, and have a part time job as a tutor.
Favorite Java word: abstract

Name: James Mao
Alias: C8H10N4O2, MaoWare, jpmao
Occupation: Student at California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, California)
Computer Interests: My interests in computing are evolving as I do. Essentially, what grabs my interest at any moment is directly related to the resources I am working with. Back in the early 90's, equipped with a monochrome 8086, I did what anyone would do, play with Basic. Soon after, C++ became my language of choice. Now, I'd like to think that I am beyond the limits of languages. The ideas that fancy me now relate to any and every programming language. Perhaps, this is the stuff that really matters. Reasoning about how machines think and how machines work gives you a new perspective on computing. Despite my concentration in the study of generalized procedures, I also dabble in a variety of languages for no good reason. Yes, I am brilliant and modest too.
Other Interests: It's truly better to excel at one thing than to be 100% well-rounded. As such, most of my other interests are either unimportant or private.
Favorite Java word: transient - In Java, just as in life, all things must come and go; only infamy lasts forever.

Name: Mike Rauser
Alias: GmGandi
Occupation: Student at
UC Berkeley
Computer Interests: I enjoy playing online and offline computer games in my spare time. I always attribute my game playing as 'reasearch' for future computer games which I will make. Coding has become my passion and I always strive to learn more and develop my ability. I worked independently of my CS-A class to cover both the A and AB material and earned a 5 on the AB AP test.
Other Interests: In my spare time I practice karate. When not on the computer or practicing karate I can be found at the beach or spending time reading fantasy books.
Favorite Java word: super

Name: John Scott
Occupation: Student at The Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio)
Computer Interests: I have always enjoyed computers, and programming especially with qBasic before high school. With the simple programming language of BASIC, I would create my own text-based games, however my real start began during at my freshman year. I was employed by my school to repair, or setup the various computers that were becoming more frequent in each of the classrooms. My sophomore year I took my first real computer science class, a semester learning about programming in the language Scheme. In the following year, I started taking a class learning C++, which I continued throughout my junior and senior year. At the end of my senior year of high school I took up Java in order to participate with JJ. In the future I hope to write computer software as a career. Ideally I will break into the computer gaming industry, but if I don't write computer games, then software that is useful, something that makes life easier for people.
Other Interests: I enjoy computer games, as well as golfing, or simply going out with friends. There is little I don"t like to do, IÕll try anything once.
Favorite Java keyword: return no one likes to come back from a task empty handed, why should a type-method?

Name: Safi Shareef
Alias: MShareef
Occupation: Student at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland)
Computer Interests:I have taken 6 semesters total of Computer Science: 2 semesters Comp. Sci. A (first AP); 2 semesters Comp. Sci. AB (second AP); 1 semester of Advanced Topics Comp. Sci. in Perl; and 1 semester of Advanced Topics Comp. Sci. in Java. I have taken both the APs, on CS A and AB and I got a 5. After my first 2 semesters of CS A I wrote a small end of the year project Java game. For my final project in Advanced Topics Computer Science in Perl I worked in a team of four and wrote a Message Board completely from scratch. For my final project in Advanced Topics Computer Science in Java I wrote a small program in Java called 'SimpleNet'. SimpleNet is a set of classes which allows people with elementary Java/C++ skills (i.e. CSA level) to create a 2-computer networked Java turn-based application without having to worry about all the underlying Java networking code (i.e. sockets, etc.) This would allow CSA students to create games like 2-player Battleship, and 2-player Tic Tac Toe (on 2 computers) , etc. for their final project. My favorite programming language is Perl because it's just a freestyle programming language. I also like computer games, mostly FPS (first-person shooter) like Unreal Tournament and such, but I also like RTS (real-time strategy) like StarCraft, WarCraft, and Age of Empires II.
Other Interests: I don't like programming for long hours... So I keep my self busy with just trying to learn non-computer related stuff.
Favorite Java keyword: Not a Java keyword (and not part of the Java subset), but I like the ternary operator: (condition)?(if true, then do this):(else do this);
-I just think this is the greatest thing ever

Name: Jaymz Winter
Alias: xylox
Occupation: Student at University of Texas, Arlington (Arlington, Texas)
Computer Interests: I have been teaching myself computer science since 8th grade and my computer science classes have been independent study for the most part. I have been in a few programming competitions, but due to my teammates (who didn't know how to program well and were bored) we ended up playing computers games most of the time. I also enjoy playing computer games (what computer geek doesn't?) but usually don't play online due to the fact that I'm on a 28,800 connection (ancient isn't it?). I like to play Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 Arena, Halo (XBox of course), Red Alert 2, Age of Empires 2, Jedi Knight 2 (I enjoy the close combat w/ lightsabers), and I'm sure a few others that have slipped my mind.
Other Interests: A few of my hobbies are playing electric guitar (metal mostly), messing with cars (and my now project car, a 1984 Camaro Z28), and game design (game programming as well, but I haven't been messing with it as much lately). My favorite types of music are metal, techno, and classical. I've also worked on robotics for about 3 years. One of the robotics competitions I was involved with was a remote control robot that had to do some various task and compete against 3 other robots in the same arena. The second one I've been involved with was programming a Lego robot that had to find its way through a maze without any outside help.

Name: Hui Lin Chin
Occupation: undergraduate at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
Computer Interests: I am truly a beginner in programming. Intro/Intermediate in Java course in CMU was the very first programming course I have ever taken. I have been using the computer a lot just to play games before I learnt programming. I can spend hours in front of a computer playing strategy games such as Command & Conquer, Age of Empire, Dune 2000, etc. But I love programming as well now because I love to see how plain codes turn into amazing programs.
When I'm not sitting at the computer: You can find me watching movies, cooking, having friends around, party and just have fun chatting! I love listening to music too.
Favorite Java keyword: extends- because I love to expand and to extend my thoughts/ideas ^_^

Name: Carol Liu
Occupation: student @ Carnegie Mellon University in da 'burgh
Computer Interests: I think the first time I played with computers was on an Apple in first grade..I was playing Oregon Trail..My favorite computer game in elementary school was "Number Munchers"..Besides using it as a word processor and for surfing the internet, the computer sat in the corner of my desk. I was introduced to my first programming language, C++, as a junior in HS. Since I really enjoyed that course, I decided to further explore the realm of coding at college..where I learned Java, ML, and C. I'm not sure which area I want to focus my studies on, but I'm looking into aerospace or something having to do with planes.
When I'm not sitting at the computer: I'm most likely practicing piano cuz it's been my passion since I was five. =) Otherwise, I'm most likely either catching up with friends, doing some outdoorsy stuff, enjoying the sunshine, sleeping, or snacking :P
Favorite Java keyword: "if"..I am a what-if type of person..always wondering what possibilities are out there..what would imporve if something changed..so..i'm just the simple 'n plain 'ol ~if.. ^^

Name: Jimmy Mitchener
Occupation: Student at Monte Vista H.S. (Danville, California)
Computer Interests: I have been using computers since as long as I can remember and playing with paint as a kid. I love graphic/web design and I live and die by my wacom intuos2 tablet (I never thought I could love something purple this much). I would pretty much be helpless without photoshop/illustrator and 3dsmax/maya and am currently working on painter. On the other side of technology I am absolutely obsessed with programming/(in)security/networking. If I am not out writing WindowMaker or OpenBSD patches/misc apps, I am out writing assmebly/shellcode on my never ending quest to prove corporate america that security must be a concern and should always come first. The internet was not designed to be secure, why do we use it as if it was designed to be so?
When I'm not sitting at the computer: I honestly roll more than I walk. I have been rollerblading since about 6th grade and pretty much roll during the day and hack all night. I skate spots all around the Bay: Glenn Cove, Dublin, Concord, SF, Walnut Creek, anywhere with rails/ledges/gaps.
Favorite Java keyword: Blob (does it have to be a keyword?), well its in java.sql and I dunno, it just sounds so unorganized, I love it.

Name: Theresa Sparacio
Occupation: Student at Dickinson College (Carlisle, Pennsylvania)
Computer Interests: I never imagined I would like a class in college that I was forced to take. The Dickinson Math Department made me take an Intro Java class, little did they know what they were doing. So now, every chance I can learn something else about Java, I take it. I also enjoy creating webpages and surfing the web. Google searching is god.
When I'm not sitting at the computer: You can usually find me glued to ESPN, watching NCAA basketball from the start of the season through to March Madness. But during the rest of the year, I spend my time running in local cross country 5k events.
Favorite Java keyword: super- cause that's what I am!!
